FAQ

Everything people ask before getting the deck

What is Street Manual?

+

Street Manual is a digital deck of 150+ street photography prompt cards. Each card is a specific creative brief — a technique, a project, a location, or a settings reference — designed to give you a concrete starting point for a shoot instead of wandering and hoping.

How many cards are free?

+

14 cards are free in full, covering every category, with no account or email required. Every other card shows its opening brief and camera settings for free.

Is it a subscription?

+

No. Full access is a one-time £29 payment. That includes every card in the deck today and every card added in the future. No recurring charges, no account required.

What's on each card?

+

A specific prompt or brief, a practical field assignment, recommended camera settings as a starting point, and an estimated time commitment. Location cards also include the best times to shoot and what to look for when you arrive.

Do I need an account?

+

No. The app runs in your browser, and your progress — Focus Cards and session log — is saved locally on your device. There is nothing to sign up for.

Does it work on my phone?

+

Yes — it is built mobile-first, because the whole point is having it in your pocket on the street. Add it to your home screen and it opens like an app.

I'm a beginner. Is this for me?

+

Yes. The settings reference cards assume nothing and give you exact starting points (aperture, shutter, ISO) for common situations. The technique cards explain the why as well as the how. If you have a camera or a phone and a pavement, you can shoot every card in the deck.

What camera do I need?

+

Any camera, including your phone. A few cards involve flash or manual controls; where a technique needs specific gear, the card says so and suggests the accessible version.

Which locations are covered?

+

There are 51 UK location cards: 28 in London, 13 in Hertfordshire, and 10 in Essex — each with best times and specific things to look for. The technique, project, and settings cards work anywhere in the world.

How often are new cards added?

+

Regularly, as they are written and field-tested. Every new card is included in full access at no extra cost — the deck you buy keeps growing.

How do I know it is for me before buying?

+

Try it properly first: 14 cards are free in full, across every category, and every other card shows its opening brief and settings. Shoot a few of the free cards. If they get you out the door and back with photographs, the full deck will too. Any questions before or after buying, email luke@streetmanual.com.

How do I get my photo featured?

+

Shoot a card, then submit your photo through the community page. Submissions are reviewed by hand and the best work is featured in the gallery with credit.
