Estate Life

Housing estates as community, not as problem.

Spend time on a council estate - with community permission if possible. Document the life there as life, not as pathology.

How to shoot it: Go with a connection if you can, and spend time before you shoot, because this is a trust project. Photograph life as life, the kids on bikes, the washing lines, the walkways and light, not as a problem to be illustrated. The architecture gives you strong geometry, so use it, then let people complete it. Share the pictures back with the people in them.

The output: A counter-narrative to the way estates are usually depicted.
