Approach strangers and ask to photograph them. Accept rejection as part of the process. Document the conversations as much as the portraits.

How to shoot it: Lead with a genuine reason, you liked their face, their coat, the light on them, and keep it quick and warm. Shoot where they stand rather than moving them, get a frame before they stiffen and one after they relax, and the second is usually the better one. Carry a card or offer to send the photo. Rejection is data, not failure, so keep asking.

The output: A portrait series with genuine human contact at its centre.
