Go when no one else does.

Visit British seaside towns out of season - October through March. The amusements closed, the seafront empty or nearly so, the permanent residents going about their lives without the summer crowd.

How to shoot it: Go on a grey weekday out of season, because the worse the weather the better the mood. Shoot the shuttered amusements, the single dog-walker, the lights on at 3pm, the residents who have the front to themselves. Colour holds the melancholy better than black and white here. Keep the shutter up against the wind and protect the camera from salt spray.

The output: A quieter, stranger body of work than summer seaside photography.
